For reference on what standards govern structural design, the ASCE 7 standard is the primary document used by structural engineers to determine wind, seismic, and other load requirements for buildings and structures, including rooftop solar systems.

Getting started with SPS is straightforward. Here’s what the process looks like from intake to delivered plan set:

Step 1: Submit Your Project. Fill out our intake form at solarpermitsolutions.com with the project details: customer address, system specs, equipment list, and any AHJ-specific requirements you’re aware of.

Step 2: We Review and Confirm. Our team reviews the intake information, flags any missing documents, and confirms the scope and turnaround time. We’ll reach out within one business day if anything is needed.

Step 3: Engineering and Design. Our drafters and engineers produce the plan set based on the project specs, AHJ requirements, and applicable Texas wind load and building code standards.

Step 4: PE Review and Stamp. A licensed professional engineer reviews the structural calculations and drawings before the plan set is finalized and stamped.

Step 5: Delivery. You receive the completed plan set as a PDF, ready to submit to the AHJ. If the AHJ requires wet-stamped originals, we coordinate that as well.

Common Permit Revisions We Help Resolve
Even well-prepared plan sets occasionally get correction notices. Texas AHJs vary widely in what they scrutinize, and some have specific formatting or documentation preferences that aren’t published anywhere. Here are the revision types we handle regularly:

Structural calculation corrections: If an AHJ questions attachment spacing, rafter size, or hardware pull-out values, we revise the calculations and provide supplemental documentation as needed.

Electrical diagram updates: Missing overcurrent protection ratings, incorrect wire gauge callouts, or labeling that doesn’t match NEC 2020 or 2023 requirements are common flags. We correct and reissue.

Site plan adjustments: AHJs sometimes request additional detail on setbacks, service entrance location, or PV array orientation. We update the site plan to match.

Racking and attachment details: Some inspectors want more detailed attachment cross-sections or specific manufacturer installation detail callouts. We add them.

Utility interconnection documentation: For Oncor, AEP Texas, CenterPoint, and other Texas utilities, interconnection applications sometimes require specific plan formatting or additional system documentation.
