Solar Permit Solutions

Solar Permit Filing & Interconnection Add-On Services

Solar Permit Solutions specializes in PE-stamped solar permit plan design. For installers, EPCs, and homeowners who want us to also handle the paperwork after the plan set is delivered, we offer permit filing and utility interconnection as add-on services on top of any plan set order, including AHJ submission, correction response, and interconnection application support.

These add-ons are available whether we designed your plans or you already have a plan set from another provider. If you haven’t ordered plans yet, start with our solar permit plans service and add permitting support at checkout or afterward. For a deeper look at why professional filing beats DIY submission, see everything you need to know about solar permit services.

Solar permit services for AHJ approval and utility interconnection filing

Add-On Pricing

Permitting support is priced as a flat-rate add-on, separate from the plan set itself:

Add-OnWhat’s IncludedPrice
Local AHJ SubmissionWe submit your permit application directly to your local authority having jurisdiction and manage the review process, including responses to correction requests.+$1,000
Interconnection with UtilityWe prepare and submit your utility interconnection application on your behalf, including net metering paperwork and coordination through Permission to Operate.+$1,500

Add-ons can be selected during plan set checkout or requested afterward for any project, including plan sets prepared by another company. See current pricing for full plan set rates.

What’s Covered by the Permitting Add-On

Once added to your order, our permitting support covers the steps between a completed plan set and an energized, grid-connected system:

  • Solar Permit Filing — preparing and submitting your permit application to the local AHJ
  • AHJ Plan Check Corrections — resolving reviewer comments and resubmitting revised drawings
  • Permit Tracking & Expediting — monitoring status and following up to prevent delays
  • Utility Interconnection Services — preparing and managing net metering and interconnection applications
  • Permission to Operate (PTO) Assistance — coordinating final approval so your system can be energized

These are delivered as part of the two add-ons above, not as separately billed services. If you only need the PE-stamped plan set and plan to handle filing and interconnection yourself, that remains available at the base plan set price.

Solar Permit Filing

We prepare and submit your permit application directly to the city or county Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), managing every document the reviewer requires for a complete, first-pass submission. Our team is familiar with the intake requirements of the most common residential and commercial permitting portals, including eTRAKiT, e-Plan, ProjectDox, Accela, and jurisdiction-specific systems.

Solar permit filing includes the following:

  • Permit application preparation, formatted to the specific AHJ’s intake requirements
  • Submission to the city or county building department
  • Uploading required plan sets, calculations, and supporting documents
  • Coordinating directly with online permitting portals on your behalf
  • Managing and organizing all permit documentation throughout the project

In jurisdictions that participate in SolarAPP+, we route eligible residential systems through the automated review platform for same-day permit issuance where available.

AHJ Plan Check Corrections

A correction notice does not have to stall your project. Our engineering team reviews every AHJ comment, determines the fastest path to compliance, and manages the resubmission directly with the reviewer.

  • Reviewing correction notices line by line to identify exactly what the AHJ requires
  • Coordinating revisions with our engineering team, including PE-stamped changes where needed
  • Updating structural calculations, single-line diagrams, and site plans
  • Resubmitting corrected plans through the appropriate portal or in-person process
  • Communicating directly with plan reviewers to resolve ambiguous comments quickly

Most correction cycles are resolved on a single resubmission. For background on what reviewers check during plan review, see our guide to solar engineering requirements for permits.

Permit Tracking & Expediting

Permit review timelines vary widely by jurisdiction, and a permit that sits untouched in a reviewer’s queue can add weeks to a project. We actively monitor every application we manage and intervene as soon as a delay risk appears.

  • Monitoring application status across every portal and jurisdiction in your pipeline
  • Following up directly with AHJ staff on applications that stall
  • Identifying delays early and escalating through the appropriate channel
  • Coordinating approvals across building, electrical, and fire department reviewers where separate sign-offs are required
  • Keeping installers and project managers informed with regular status updates

Permitting timelines can range from roughly three weeks to more than two months depending on the state and jurisdiction. See our state-by-state solar permit timeline analysis for typical review windows before you plan your installation schedule.

Utility Interconnection Services

Utility interconnection is a distinct approval process from the local building permit, and it is often the step that determines when a system can actually be turned on. We prepare and manage the interconnection application, coordinate any required engineering review, and track the process through to a signed interconnection agreement.

  • Utility interconnection application preparation and submission
  • Compiling required utility documentation, including single-line diagrams and equipment specifications
  • Net metering paperwork and program enrollment
  • Responding to utility correction requests and engineering comments
  • Utility engineering coordination for systems requiring supplemental review
  • Support through final utility approval

We regularly manage interconnection applications with major investor-owned and municipal utilities across the country, including:

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E)

Southern California Edison (SCE)

Florida Power & Light (FPL)

Duke Energy

Xcel Energy

Every utility maintains its own interconnection rules, application fees, and technical standards, such as California’s Rule 21. Rather than requiring installers to learn each utility’s process individually, our team manages the application details on a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis.

Permission to Operate (PTO) Assistance

Many customers don’t realize that permission to operate is a separate authorization from the building permit. A system can pass its final AHJ inspection and still be legally prohibited from generating power until the utility issues formal PTO.

  • Final document submission to the utility’s interconnection or net metering department
  • Utility approval coordination through to a signed interconnection agreement
  • Meter replacement coordination, where a bidirectional or production meter is required
  • Tracking PTO status until authorization is issued
  • Continued support until Permission to Operate is granted and the system can be energized

Because many competitors stop managing a project once the local permit is approved, unresolved PTO steps are a common source of installation delay. We continue managing your project through this final stage, which is often the difference between an installed system and a system that is actually earning credits.

Already Have Solar Permit Plans From Another Provider?

The permitting add-on is available even if another company prepared your plan set. If you need filing, AHJ correction support, or utility interconnection handled for a project designed elsewhere, we can add that support without redesigning your plans.

Most customers, however, order permitting support alongside a new plan set, since our engineering team is already familiar with the project and can move directly from design into filing.

Why Add Solar Permitting Service to Your Plan Set

  • Your plans and your permit filing come from the same engineering team, so there’s no handoff gap
  • Nationwide AHJ and utility experience across all 50 states
  • Fast response on correction notices, since the team that designed the plans handles the revisions
  • One flat add-on price per service — no hourly billing
  • Available even on plan sets we didn’t design

Plan design is our specialty. The permitting add-on exists for customers who want that same team to also carry the project through AHJ approval and utility interconnection, rather than handing off to someone unfamiliar with the plans.
