Houston Solar Permit Package – Required Document Checklist
1. The cover sheet & code compliance summary include either the 2021 IBC or 2021 IRC (not both), along with the 2023 NEC, 2021 IFC, 2021 IEBC, 2021 IECC, 2021 UMC, 2021 UPC, 2021 ISPSC, Houston Local Amendments, Houston Code Words, and HFD Life Safety Bureau Standards.
2. The site/plot plan must be drawn to scale from an official property survey. Show all structures, property lines, setbacks, easements, equipment pads, and battery storage areas. No equipment or installations may encroach into designated easements.
3. Roof Layout Plan: Clearly indicate panel placement, railing, and mounting locations relative to existing rafters, current roof penetrations, access pathways, and required setbacks. A minimum 4-foot emergency access pathway is mandatory.
4. Structural calculations & the engineer’s letter must be sealed by a Texas-licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Address added loads, anchorage, and wind uplift per Table R301.2(1) or IBC §1609.3. An ASCE 7 hazard tool printout must be included.
5. Electrical Single-Line Diagram Prepared and PE-stamped or signed by a licensed electrician or Texas PE. Must comply with NEC Articles 690 and 705. Include panel and pathway layouts, conductor sizes and types, overcurrent protection, disconnect locations, inverter specs, and battery system details.
